2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The host city for this year's Winter Olympics is Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Vancouver sits between the Pacific Ocean and the snowcapped Coast Mountains in the southwest corner of Canada. It has mild climate where you can ski in the morning and sail in the afternoon.

The Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held in BC Place in downtown Vancouver. BC Place looks like a big pillow from above. The arena's seating capacity for spectators is 55,000. It will be the site for athletes receiving medals during each night's Victory Ceremony.

For freestyle skiing and snowboarding competition, Cypress Mountain is the official Olympic venue. It's in West Vancouver, 30 minutes from downtown. Cypress Mountain is one of the most popular local skiing areas for alpine and cross-country skiing.

The Olympics visitors will have many things to see and enjoy in and around Vancouver and Whistler, about 75 miles north of Vancouver.

Visitors may want to visit Stanley Park which is a huge park within walking distance of downtown of Vancouver. The Vancouver Aquarium is there where the Beluga whales are the star attractions.

Granville Island is known for its huge indoor farmers' market, shops, street performers, and artist studios. There's also A Kids Markets which features books, games, toys, and clothes for kids. You can travel from downtown Vancouver to Granville Island via small passenger ferries that look like giant bathtub toys.

Another nice place to visit is Capilano Suspension Bridge, a 450-foot long walking bridge crossing the Capilano River. It is 230 feet above the river. There are smaller bridges on the other side which make up the Treetops Adventure where you can walk from one giant Douglas fir to another. Some of the bridges are up to 100 feet above the forest floor.
